High IQ society

A Gifted Association is an organization that requires as a criterion for membership of the detection of giftedness or a certain minimum score in an IQ test.

Associations

The oldest, largest and most famous gifted association is Mensa International ( represented in Germany by Mensa in Germany ), founded in 1946, which requires an IQ in the 98th percentile (ie top 2% of the population). Other well-known associations of this type are listed in the box.

Criticism

Since gifted associations as mentioned above define, usually about results in IQ tests, the criticism of the formalized concept of intelligence also affects gifted associations. So arguing about Stephen Jay Gould in his book The mismeasure of Man, the concept of a unified intelligence concept, as it is based on IQ tests is misguided, since we are dealing with an arbitrary collection of different cognitive abilities. Even the creator of the first IQ tests in the modern sense at all, the French psychologist Alfred Binet (1857-1911), doubted the possibility of measuring intelligence objectively.
