High Precision Event Timer
Under the High Precision Event Timer ( HPET ) is defined as a high-precision timer in modern computers.
This timer is able to trigger, with a very high temporal resolution ( quantization ) interrupts. Thus, programs are able to better synchronize a number of parallel actions as data streams. Different multimedia applications can work effectively with HPET.
Until the application and operation of HPET, this task was done by the real-time clock and a timer in the interrupt controller.
