High Priests of Amun

The High Priest of Amun (also High Priest of Amun in Egyptian: first servant / priest of Amun ) was an important religious official in Ancient Egypt. The Office is attested ( New Kingdom ) since the beginning of the 18th Dynasty. The incumbent resided in Thebes. Especially at the end of the New Kingdom and the Third Intermediate these priests have held significant economic and political power. In the 21st Dynasty they were the practical rulers of Upper Egypt and had numerous secular and religious titles held. In the late period of the office lost its importance.
