Highway 1 (Afghanistan)

The Ring Road is a ring-shaped network of trunk roads in Afghanistan. It is 2200 km long and connects many Afghan cities.

Course

The A1, which is part of the Afghan section of the international AH1, runs from the Khyber Pass, on the border with Pakistan, to Jalalabad and Kabul. From Kabul, the A1 is part of the Ring Road. The nearest large towns are the A1 Ghazni, Qalat -i - Ghilzai, Kandahar, Herat and Farah. In Herat, the A1 and the Ring Road disconnect. The A1 leads to Mashhad in Iran, while the Ring Road continues on the A76 to Qala -i - Naw, Maimana, Mazār -i -Sharif, Pol -e Chomri, over the Salangpass by Charikar and back to Kabul.
