Hiiessaare

Hiiessaare ( German Hiesaar ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Pühalepa ( Pühalepa vald ). It is the second largest Estonian island of Hiiumaa ( German Dagö ).

Description

The place is situated on the Baltic coast, just east of the airport of the island capital Kärdla ( Kertel ). The built in the early 1960s airport belongs to the area of the village.

Hiessaare today has 13 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011).

Lighthouse

The Lighthouse of Hiiessaare located 19 meters above the sea level. The concrete base is 17 m high. It was built in 1953.

Together with the light character of the Church of the lighthouse Pühalepa steers the ships on the northeast coast of Hiiumaa to the port of Suuresadama.
