Hilarión Daza

Hilarión Grosolé Daza ( born January 14, 1840 in Sucre, † February 27, 1894 in Uyuni ), was from 1876 to 1879 president of Bolivia.

Life and work

Daza came on May 4, 1876 a coup against President Tomás Frias Ametller to power. To rehabilitate the ailing state budget, he finished nitric export in 1879 with high taxes. This produced the displeasure of the Chilean exporters. Chile looked at this as a breach of contract ( border treaties of 1874 ) and occupied the Salpetergebiete in Salpeter ( 1879-1884 ). Daza was deposed in December 28, 1879 and went into exile in France for several years.

In the peace treaty of 1884 Bolivia had to give up on Chile 's Pacific access Antofagasta Province Atacama.

Daza was murdered on 27 February 1894 Station of Uyuni.
