Hilde Zach

Hilde Zach ( born August 25, 1942 in Hall in Tirol, † 15 January 2011 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian local politician. She was from 2002 to 2010 Mayor of Innsbruck.

Life

After training Zach was first in the family business, then working as an independent contractor. In 1991, she was Wirtschaftsbund district chairwoman of the City of Innsbruck. In 1994 she became a founding member of the Association for Innsbruck, for which she successfully ran in the same year as a councilor. On 10 September 2001, it was the chairwoman of the association. As the then- Innsbruck Mayor Herwig van Staa was elected Governor of Tyrol, on 26 October 2002 was chosen by the council of Innsbruck in a special meeting on 30 October 2002, Hilde Zach, the new mayor, and thus became the first woman to head a state capital. In the local elections on 23 April 2006, she came with a voter turnout of 59.1 per cent to 26.8 per cent of the vote and was approved despite the high voices loss in office.

Since she came from a butcher Dynasty, it was sometimes referred to locally as the " Fleischkas - Hilde" or shorter, " Wurscht - Hilde". The nickname "Wild Hilde ", however, did not arise from its origin, but was rather due to their partly as traditionally designated use in everyday political life.

In March 2010, Zach told for health reasons their withdrawal from politics. Your succeeded by on March 8, 2010 Christine Oppitz - Plörer. On the same day the council of Innsbruck, Hilde Zach decided to confer an honorary citizen of the city. She died on 15 January 2011 of complications from cancer. Your funeral took place on 21 January 2011 after a funeral ceremony in the Innsbruck Cathedral and a large convoy through the city center on the West Cemetery.

Hilde Zach was a member of the Chamber of Local Authorities of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe.
