The Hildegardis School is a secondary school in Bochum.

History

The school was founded in 1860 by the young Bochum teacher Henriette of Noël as "higher private - girls - school " in Augusta Street (now Hans Boeckler road). 1901 was followed by an extension in 1904 a Catholic teacher training college. 1916 started off with the school's scientist, theologian and writer Hildegard of Bingen as a namesake. Outside the main entrance is a statue of Hildegard.

The architectural competition for a new building at the Hospital Road 1953 won the architects Norbert Demmel and Walter Gemmer from Dusseldorf. It was inaugurated on 13 November 1957. In the immediate vicinity are the Bochum Planetarium opened in 1964 and the New Synagogue Bochum as well as the city of Bochum.

Today, the school is an urban school for boys and girls with a bilingual German - French branch. In addition to the German Abitur, the French Baccalauréat can be purchased.

In 2008 the school was certified by the Ministry of Education as a European School in North Rhine -Westphalia and again honored as a school of the future. In 2010, the Hildegardis school in 2010 taking part in the events to the Ruhr in 2010 as part of the project Twins - part of European Capital of Culture.
