Hildon

Hildon is an application framework, originally for mobile devices ( PDAs, mobile phones, etc. ) was developed. It is based on the Linux operating system. It was developed by Nokia for the Maemo operating system and is now a part of GNOME. His focus lies in providing a user interface that is optimized for finger operation. Mainly, it is a set of GTK extensions that offers this mobile device - oriented functionality. It also includes a Desktop environment with Task Manager to open and switch between programs, a control panel for user settings, a status bar, a Taskbar and Start screen applets. The framework is standard on the Maemo platform, which is used on the Nokia Internet Tablets.

Hildon was selected as a framework for the Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded Edition.

Components

The Hildon framework includes components that provide an effective desktop environment.

Hildon Application Manager

The Hildon Application Manager (Application Manager) the graphical package manager in Hildon based on the Debian package management tools APT and dpkg. It provides a graphical interface for installing, updating and removing packages. There is a limited package manager, which was developed especially for end users, so that no direct access is given to system files and libraries. With the Diablo edition of the Maemo Hildon Application Manager now supports " Seamless Software Update" (SSU ), with which, thanks to a number of features a system update can be performed very easily.

Hildon Control Panel

Hildon Control Panel (Control Panel ) is the user interface for system settings in Hildon. It offers easy access to control panels to change the system properties.

Hildon desktop

Hildon Desktop is the primary UI component of Hildon and thus makes up the majority of what users see as " Hildon ". It controls the starting and switching between programs, provides a general system control and provides interfaces for the Taskbar ( application menu and task switch ) status bar (brightness and volume settings ) as well as applets / widgets homescreen (Internet radio and network search)
