The Hiller Aircraft Company was founded in 1942 as Hiller Industries by Stanley Hiller to develop helicopters.

History

Stanley Hiller was just seventeen years old when he was in Berkeley, California founded in 1942, the first helicopter factory on the West Coast of the United States. The company was called " Hiller Industries" and developed the equipped with a Koaxialrotorsystem XH -44 " Hiller - Copter " for the United States Army. The XH -44 first flew in 1944. Hiller started in 1945 along with Henry J. Kaiser and the company was renamed United Helicopters. In the postwar years, United Helicopters designed a series of innovative helicopters for military and civil purposes, including coaxial rotor and tail-less designs, as well as more conventional models. In January 1949, a Hiller 360 crossed the first civilian helicopter the United States.

After the Second World War, Stanley Hiller worked, in addition to helicopters, even on a vertical startendem and landendem two-seat rocket-powered aircraft, the VJ -100. Hiller tried in vain to interest the U.S. military to awaken it, so it is not out came on the drawing board stage.

The company was renamed Hiller Helicopters in 1948. The company has developed several helicopters and was instrumental in the development of some others. From the early 1960s until 1969, his factory in Palo Alto served as the CIA front company, in the CORONA reconnaissance satellites were produced.

Hiller was purchased in 1964 by Fairchild Aircraft. Stanley Hiller, the Company repurchased by a dozen investors from Thailand in 1973. At least 30 new helicopters were produced in a new factory in East Bay and at the same time also built the first air and space company in Thailand.
