The Hiltruper Lake, named after its first tenant as Steiner lake, is an incurred by sand mining lake south of Hiltrup in Münster. It lies directly on the Munsterlander Kiessandzug. In the south and east, the forest area of ​​the High Ward joins. North of the lake runs the new ride of the Dortmund- Ems Canal.

From 1920 Hiltruper Lake was first leased from the Dortmund manufacturers Steiner, who ran a trout farm until 1925/26. By 1967, however, the sand was further recovered from the lake. Because of the importance of the gravel train for drinking Stadtwerke Münster sand mining was stopped.

The entire Kiessandzug from the Old Crossing of the Dortmund- Ems Canal in the north- west to the floodplain of the Werse at the southeast end of the High Ward is reported as a water protection area since 1963.
