Himmelbjerget

Lookout on the Himmelbjerg.

The Himmelbjerg ( German: Himmelberg ) is a 147 m high hill in Denmark between the towns of Ry and Silkeborg. The hill is well known for its beautiful views of the Julsø (Danish: Julsø ) and because of the 25 -meter-high brick tower on its summit.

The observation tower was built in honor of King Frederik VII, who gave the country with the Basic Law of 5 June 1849 modern, democratic constitution, which still forms the basis of the Danish Constitution.

On the outer wall of the tower figures of personalities in Danish history are incorporated including a memorial stone for the introduction of women's suffrage in Denmark in 1915.

Today the tower on weekends is often used as a starting point or stopover point for excursions and hikes. Weekdays school trips or traveling days are widely held to Himmelbjerg: to introduce the children of Danish history in pleasant surroundings.
