Hinduism in Switzerland

Hinduism is in Switzerland 's third largest religion after Christianity and Islam.

According to the census in 2000, 27,839 inhabitants of Switzerland known as Hindus (0.38 per cent of the population). Most Hindus are Tamils ​​from Sri Lanka ( 81.2 percent). About one third of Switzerland's Hindu community has the status of a refugee or asylum seeker.

In previous censuses Hindus were with other non- Abrahamic faiths (especially Buddhists ) than other churches and communities together. This included 0.12 percent in 1970, 0.19 percent in 1980, 0.42 percent in 1990 and 0.78 percent in 2000 (0.38 percent Hinduism, Buddhism 0.29 percent, 0.11 percent others).
