Hintersee is a municipality in the province of Salzburg in Salzburg-Umgebung in Austria with 451 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

Geography
The municipality is located in Flachgau in Salzburg, at the Tauglbach ( Lämmerbach ) receiving the store stream here. The municipality is part of the Judicial District Thalgau.

The municipality comprises the two villages (in brackets population as of 31 October 2011):
- Hintersee (255 )
- Lämmerbach (201 )
The municipality comprises the cadastral Hintersee and Lämmerbach.

Municipal council
The municipal council of Hintersee has 9 members and, as follows from the local council elections in 2009 together:
- 4 ÖVP
- 3 SPÖ
- 2 FPÖ
Directly elected mayor is Paul Weiss Bacher (ÖVP ).
Coat of arms
The coat of arms of the municipality is: "In the red shield on green plate floor side by side three green pines, behind a silver (white ) lake. "
History
The first mention is found in the year 700 in a donation Theudebert Duke of Bavaria. From 1612 to the end of the Salzburg archbishopric in 1803 Hintersee was in possession of the Salzburg cathedral chapter. Today's church was built in 1848.
Ski resort
In Hintersee is also a part of the ski Gaißau -Hintersse with 9 lifts ( 3 chair lifts, 6 surface lifts ) and 40 km of groomed slopes.
