Hipparchus (lunar crater)

Hipparchus is a big crater on the lunar front side, southeast of the sine Medii. It lies north of the crater Albategnius and northeast of Ptolemy. The crater is heavily eroded and superimposed mainly on the western edge of numerous other strikes. Within the crater ring is located on the northeastern edge of the crater Horrocks.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Greek astronomer Hipparchus.
