Hiromi Taniguchi

Hiromi Taniguchi (Japanese谷口 浩 美Hiromi Taniguchi, born April 5, 1960 in nango, Miyazaki Prefecture) is a former Japanese long-distance runner.

In his home country he could win the title in the marathon at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo, where the extreme conditions (heat and 73 % humidity) in the winning time ( 2:14:57 ) were reflected. This is so far the only title won the male Japanese marathoner at World Championships (2007), at the Olympic Games won only the Korean -born Japanese Son Kitei 1936 for Japan.

Other successes Taniguchi at international championships were a second place at the Asian Games in 1986 and an eighth place finish at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

He also won the 1987 London Marathon, twice at the Tokyo International Women's Marathon (1987 and 1989) and 1990 at the Rotterdam Marathon.

His personal best ( 2:07:40 ) he set in 1988 at the Beijing Marathon.
