Hirono (Iwate)

Hirono (Japanese洋 野 町, -chō ) is a town in the district Kunohe in Iwate Prefecture on Honshu, the main island of Japan.

Geography

Hirono is located on the Sanriku coast on Pacific ocean in the far north of Iwate Prefecture. A large part of its territory is mountainous country, so that the population is concentrated in the coastal areas, as well as mountain and river valleys.

The municipality consists of the following nine districts. On the coast, from north to south Taneichi (种 市), Okonai (小子 内), Uge (有家) and Nakano (中 野) on the southern border. About 15 km inland in a vast river basin of the River Ōno (大野 川) is the relatively densely populated center of Ōno (大野, dt " large field "). The Ōno River also forms the southern and western boundary originates in the southwest of the community. In the immediate vicinity also Køge River (高家 川) along which a high level, the districts Mizusawa (水 沢), Taishima (帯 岛) and, still within 10 km of the coast rises removed Akogi (阿 子 木) are located. Neighboring municipalities are Kuji in the south, the west and Karumai Hashikami in the north.

History

The municipality was created on 1 January 2006 by the unification of the city and the village Taneichi Ōno.

The town of Hirono was hit on March 11, 2011 by a tsunami following the Tōhoku earthquake. It was observed from the sanctuary, such as the tsunami sweeps away 41 fishing boats. The boats were later found 2-3 km in the open sea in a line. The tsunami had a EUR 6.3 to 15 feet. The post office Hirono has been damaged. Since the majority of the districts located inland, it came in Hirono to any injured or dead.

Traffic

Main highways are the National Road 45 to Sendai or Aomori, and 395 Kuji or Ninohe. Further, the prefectural roads 11, 20, 139, 150, 153, 164, 216, 247, 269 and 292

On the rail network, the community is connected via the JR East Hachinohe Line with stations within the municipality in Kadonohama, Hiranai, Taneichi, Tamagawa, Shukunohe, Rikuchu Yagi, Uge and Rikuchu - Nakano.

Also to be found in the municipality of the ports Tateichi (种 市 港), Tamagawa (玉川 港), Heruke (戸 类 家 港), Shukunohe (宿 戸 港), Yagi (八 木 港), and other fishing harbors. The Yagi - port is one of the most important of the prefecture.
