Hiroshi Hara (botanist)

Hara Hiroshi (Japanese原 広 司, born January 5, 1911 in Tokyo, † 24 September 1986) was a Japanese botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " H.Hara ".

Life

Hara was born on January 5, 1911 in Tokyo. His father was created a Baron and was chairman of the Sūmitsu - in ( State) in the Japanese Empire. As the only son inherited his father's title Hara 1944, but had to leave him shortly thereafter, as with the adoption of the Japanese Constitution, the title of nobility ( Kazoku ) were abolished.

As a child he developed a taste for plants and studied at the University of Tokyo botany. Even in studies, he was able to publish a number of scientific publications on the flora of Karuizawa. He focused his research on the saxifrage family ( Saxifragaceae ) and was able to publish a monograph in 1939 to the third volume of Nova Flora Japonica.

In 1934 he completed his studies and remained at the university, first as an assistant, from 1942-44 as a lecturer, then until 1957 as Associate Professor and then as Associate Professor. In 1971 he became Professor Emeritus.

From 1938 to 1940, he attended Harvard University. In the 60s, he took a total of eight research cruises in the eastern Himalayas and published three bands of Flore work on Nepal. In the 80s he moved on research trips to the People's Republic of China. In 1983 he published a monograph on the Geißblattgewächsen ( Caprifoliaceae ).

He erstbeschrieb total of 500 new species. In 1984 he was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, which he died in 1986.
