Hiroshi Sugimoto

Hiroshi Sugimoto (Japanese杉 本 博 司, Sugimoto Hiroshi, born February 23, 1948 in Tokyo, Japan) is a Japanese photographer in New York, USA, lives and works.

Life and work

Hiroshi Sugimoto studied at the Saint Paul 's University in Tokyo. During his art studies at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, he has been significantly affected by the American art movements of minimalism and conceptual art ( concept art ).

He works exclusively in the medium of black and white photography and the concept of the series, by pursuing the idea of individual series for a long time consistently. Until now stand in his work the following series / work groups in the foreground: " diorama " ( dioramas ) and " Wax Museum " ( wax figure museums, both from 1976 ), " theater" ( cinemas, from 1978), " Seascapes " ( sea views, from 1980) and " Architecture" ( Architecture, 1997 ). Works by Hiroshi Sugimoto are represented in many international collections and presented in photography as art exhibitions. His works include the Artistic Photography.
