Hirschberg (Kaufunger Wald)

The Hirschberg is 643.4 m above sea level with. NHN is the highest mountain in Kaufunger forest in northern Hesse Werra -Meißner -Kreis ( Germany ). In Fulda- Werra- Bergland it lies to the east of the adjoining the actual plateau of Kaufunger Forest to the south Söhre.

Geography

Location

In the northeast of North Hesse, the Hirschberg rises in the Werra- Meißner-Kreis about 20 km southeast of the city center of Kassel; below about 560 m above sea level. NHN include its northern and north-western flanks of the district of Kassel. He is indeed in the aforementioned Kaufunger forest, but just outside the narrow limits of the natural park Meissner Kaufunger forest, almost 2.5 km southwest of the urban core of Großalmerode, nearly 2 km north- west of Rommerode (southern district of Großalmerode ) and 2 km (distances in each air line ) southeast of Wickenrode (eastern part of the municipality of Helsa ).

The neighboring mountains of Hirschbergs include the Giesenberg ( 526.8 m above sea level. NHN ) in the north- northwest, the Steinberg (approx. 585 m) in the north- northeast with the stone mountain lakes and otherworldly located away Bilstein ( 641.2 m), the Exberg (505, 5 m ) in the southeast with the two Exbergseen and the pipe Berg ( 535.6 m) in the southwest.

On the northwestern flank of the Hirschbergs springs the Wedemann, which opens into the Losse, not far southeast of the mountain springs the weirs and at Pfaff Mountain - the north foothills of the mountain - the Gelster, each tributaries of the river Werra.

Geomorphology

The basalt peak of the Hirschberg is an almost circular plateau, above the 600 m contour line is about 1 km in diameter. On it are two approximately 450 m apart and removed gently sloping hilltops:

Nature Spatial allocation

The Hirschberg (No. 357,700 ) is in the geography major unit group Osthessisches Bergland (35) in the main unit Fulda- Werra- Bergland ( 357) and in the subunit Kaufunger forest and Söhre ( 357.7 ), primarily for natural space Söhre ( 357.70 ), and its eastern and south-eastern flank counts in Witzenhausen Altmorschener Talung ( 357.5 ) for natural space Romme Roder hill country ( 357.53 ).

Landscape

The high altitudes of Hirschberg's heavily forested. There are, however, apart from the caused by lignite mining on its flanks open pits in the southwestern plateau region with a clearing about 140 to 165 m in diameter and at other places a few smaller ones. On the eastern flank of the mountain is about a 550 by 250 m wide clearing.

History

Since ( at least? ) In 1690, an intensive brown coal open pit was am Hirschberg operated, which can be seen in the mining areas, located on the northern flanks of the mountain. On 3 October 2003, the mine was closed Hirschberg; this was the end of the North Hessian coal mining.

Transport links and walking

North past the Hirschberg runs between Wickenrode and Großalmerode the federal highway 451 ( Wickenrode - Großalmerode ), east and south of the country road 3225 ( Großalmerode - Rommerode -Friedrich Bruck ) and southwest of the L 3400 ( Friedrich Brück - Helsa ). You can reach the mountain plateau on which no roads lead, coming for example from the aforementioned villages on passing through mostly forested landscape hiking trails.
