Hirschthal, Germany

Deer valley is a municipality in the district of West Palatinate in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Dahn, which has its headquarters in the town of Dahn. Deer valley is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geographical location

Deer valley is located in the Sauer Valley in the southern Palatinate Forest, the German part of the Wasgau, directly on the border with France. 55.3 percent of the district area is forested. To the north lies Schönau, in the south of Lembach. Nearest large towns are white castle in the east and Pirmasens in the northwest.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1129 under the name " Hirzthal ", as Gottfried von Fleckenstein gave the place along with Schönau the monastery of St. Walburga in Hagenauer Forst.

By the end of the 18th century the village belonged to the Duchy of Pfalz- Zweibrücken. After taking the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops (1794 ), he was from 1798 into the canton of Pirmasens in the department of Thunder Mountain until 1814. Based on the decisions taken at the Congress of Vienna agreements, the Palatinate came in 1816 with the Kingdom of Bavaria. Under the Bavarian administrative Hirschthal 1817 was transferred together with six other municipalities in the canton Dahn, who belonged to the country 's Commissariat Pirmasens in the Rhine district. 1828 had 80 Catholic and Protestant inhabitants of the village of 201 deer valley.
