Among Hispanic America or Spanish America, the areas of Latin America are understood, where the majority of the population speaks Spanish and is influenced by the Spanish culture. Excluded from the Hispano-American space are, inter alia, Brazil, Belize (here, nearly 50 percent of the population is of Spanish mother tongue, the language but has no official status ), Suriname, Haiti, Guyana and Jamaica.

In addition to the Spanish language there are the following similarities:

  • These are former Spanish colonies.
  • The population is largely Roman Catholic.
