Hispar Glacier

The Hispar Glacier is a 49 km long glacier in the Karakoram in Pakistan's Gilgit -Baltistan autonomous region, the former Northern areas. The Hispar Glacier begins at 5,128 m high Hispar Pass, lies beyond the glaciated pass of the 63 km long glacier Biafo. The two glaciers form with a length of more than 100 km the longest glacier area outside the polar regions.

The Hispar glacier connects the former kingdoms Nagar in the south to Baltistan in the east. The glacier runs without significant curves in west-north- westerly direction, is an average of three miles wide and has a slight slope on. Its outflow is the Hispar River, which flows across from Karimabad in the Hunza River. North of the Hispartals is the Hispar Muztagh, part of the Karakoram main chain. In the south of the valley lie the Rakaposhi - Haramosh Mountains and the Spantik - Sosbun Mountains, both of which are counted for so-called small Karakorum.

From the north the Hispar Muztagh lead large valley glaciers in the Hispar Glacier, the Khani Basa Glacier, Glacier Yutmaru and Kunyang Glacier, which are clearly visible in the satellite image (see photo).
