Historia (Antiquity journal)

Historia (Subtitles Journal of Ancient History - Revue d' Histoire Ancienne - Journal of Ancient History - Rivista di Storia Antica) is a peer-reviewed international scientific journal for Ancient History.

Founded as the Historia in 1950 by Karl Friedrich Stroheker and Gerold Walser. The new journal should compensate for the loss of Clio, whose rights were now lying in eastern Germany. As the extensive title is visible, the journal has a very international; usually originates more than half of the contents of Germany, with a decreasing trend. In the Historia longer scientific papers ( " Essays " ) and shorter contributions ( " Miscellany " ) published in English, German, French and Italian. It is not directed to lay readers but to a scientific audience. The Historia is published quarterly, each edition part has 128 pages. The pages are numbered consecutively, since the partial deliveries together a band - say, "Historia Vol 54, 2005 " - form. The journal is published in Franz Steiner Verlag.

The Historia is supervised by an international Editorial Board, which currently consists of Kai Brodersen, Mortimer Chambers, Martin Jehne, François Paschoud and Aloys Winterling. The extended editorial board includes moreover Arnaldo Marcone, Kurt Raaflaub and John Scheid. In addition to Chiron and the Clio is the most important published in Germany journal of Ancient History. The great majority of articles of the past 10 years came from authors in the United States, followed by Germany, UK, Italy, Australia, Canada and France, and 20 other nationalities.

Thematically, the Historia primarily concerned with the historical branches of classical antiquity, ie the ancient Greece, including the Hellenistic and the Roman Empire, including the late antiquity until about 600 AD, the main focus is on the political, Event, economic, social - and cultural history. But other problems of border areas or neighboring and auxiliary sciences such as archeology, numismatics, epigraphy, Papyrology, law, religion and the history of science may be the subject of the work.

Each submission will be anonymous and by at least two independent researchers (mostly professors ) evaluated before the editors decide on the acceptance of the work ( double-blind opinion) (Double concealed opinion, Eng. Double - blind peer review ).

In addition to the magazine also the also very famous Historia individual writings in the form of monographs are published. Currently, this series consists of more than 200 individual volumes.
