Geography

Geographical Location

Hittbergen lies to the west of the nature reserve bank of the Elbe - Drawehn in a Elbmarsch landscape. The community belongs to the Samtgemeinde Scharnebeck, which has its headquarters in the town of Scharnebeck.

Hittbergen with Barförde is dominated by farms ( 893 inhabitants). A landmark of this picturesque village is the church with the standing in front of a thousand year old oak and the mill.

The municipality is located Hittbergen with its districts in a typical Elbmarsch landscape ( in the eastern part also march hooves landscape ), which is characterized by many watercourses, ditches smaller and larger receiving waters such as the march weather and of course the same yourself.

Visible from afar, is another landmark of Hittbergen; 1961 disused windmill, a Dutch gallery. Wing cross, cap and wind rose are still preserved. The mill is now used as a residential mill. 1998/99 extensive restoration work was carried out on mill cap, wind roses and wings work.

Hittbergen lying on a sand hill. Since the sand heats up in the sun, so the name could Hittbergen ( Platt hot mountains ) have arisen.

Parts of the village are at the level of the old dike.

History

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the neighboring community Barförde was incorporated.

The municipality belongs to the Hittbergen parliament constituency 48 Elbe and the Bundestag constituency 38 Lüchow -Dannenberg - Lüneburg.

The council consists of nine council Hittbergen women and councilors.
