Hjalmar Kiærskou

Hjalmar Frederik Christian Kiaerskou ( born August 6 1835 in Copenhagen, † March 18, 1900 ), sometimes also stated as Hjalmar Kiaerskov, was a Danish botanist. His official botanical author abbreviation is " Kiaersk. ".

Life

Hjalmar Kiaerskou was the son of the landscape painter Frederik Christian Jakobsen Kiaerskou ( 1805-1891 ). In 1862 he graduated as a Master's degree in the natural sciences. In 1861 he was assistant at the Botanical Gardens in Copenhagen, first as an assistant and then from 1875 to 1883 as a librarian. In 1873 he married his cousin Olivia Margrethe Gindrup. In 1883 he was inspector at the Botanical Museum. From 1869 to 1893 he was editor of the magazine " Botanisk Tidsskrift ". From 1882 to 1889 he was a teacher at Monrad'ske course at the Danmarks Lærerhøjskole in Copenhagen. In 1882 he was a lecturer at the Polytechnic educational institution. From 1876 to 1883 he was a staff member in the Chemical Laboratory of Sigfred Frederik Edvard Valdemar stone.

Kiaerskou described several plant taxa from the families of the Lythraceae and Myrtaceae, especially from Spain, the West Indies and Brazil. Together with Samsøe Lund he published a monograph on the cultivated varieties of the cabbage, beet and oilseed rape.
