The HK Riga 2000 was an ice hockey club in the city of Riga in Latvia, which existed between 2000 and 2009. The home matches of the club were held in the hall Inbox.lv Ledus that offers 1,000 spectators.

History

The club was founded in 2000 in the tradition Juniors Riga and its predecessor clubs Dinamo Riga ( 1940-1995 ) and thus continues the long history of ice hockey in Riga. Until the dissolution of the East European Hockey League, the club participated in this and reached the 2001 and 2002 runner-up title of EEHL. Besides participating in the EEHL of HK Riga 2000 dominated since its inception by the Latvian Hockey League. In the seasons 2004/ 05 and 2005/ 06 he also took part in the Belarusian Extraliga. There, she reached the third place in 2006 and were the first non- Belarusian team that could break into the top three in the league. After the Belarusian League for the 2006/07 season was again a closed league, the HK Riga 2000 played back again exclusively in the Latvian League and in 2007 champions.

Since the re- opening of the Belarusian League for season 2008/ 09 the HK Riga 2000 again took part in this, with the play-offs were played separately in order to determine the respective national champion. The association also maintained a cooperation agreement with the KHL Dinamo Riga participants and acted between 2008 and 2009 as the farm team. Due to financial problems, the club disbanded in the summer of 2009. Many former players move then to the new farm team of Dinamo Riga, Dinamo- Juniors Riga.

Achievements

The team was five times Latvian Champion ( 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007). Only 2002 and 2003, they lost in the final of the HK Liepaja Metalurgs. In the season 2005/ 06 and 2007/ 08 the team second in the IIHF Continental Cup were. In addition, the club won the 2001 and 2002 runner-up title of EEHL.
