HKm Zvolen

HKm Zvolen is an ice hockey club in the town of Zvolen in Slovakia, which plays in the Slovak Extraliga since 1996. Play their home games in the club from the 7,038 -seat Steiger Aréna.

History

The club was founded in 1927 as ZTK Zvolen. In 1970 he rose to the second- highest division of Czechoslovakia, the first SNHL. In the 1970s the club was under the name Lokomotíva Bučina Zvolen (LB Zvolen ) four times champion of this league are (1973, 1975, 1976 and 1978 ) but never managed to move up to the top division of Czechoslovakia. When in 1993 the Slovak Extraliga was created, the HKm was included in this new league. However, the club finished second in the season 1993/94, only the last ( tenth ) course and got off in the first league. Two years later the club but could celebrate the championship game of the second class, and rose again in the Extraliga.

In the season 1999/2000 the HKm Zvolen reached the runner- Slovakia, as the team from Zvolen in the playoff finals failed on HC Slovan Bratislava 3-2. A year later, the HKm was back in the finals and beat the HC Dukla Trenčín 3-1. Thus, the HKm Zvolen won his first Slovak league titles and reached the most successful in the club's history. In the following years, the club established in the top flight of the Extraliga and participated in the 2004 /05 part of the IIHF Continental Cup. In the final round of this tournament the HKm won against both the HC Milano Vipers and Alba Volán Székesfehérvár Hungary, as well as against the HK Dynamo Moscow. Thus, the club secured its first international title in club history. In 2013 the club won its second championship.
