Hlyboka Raion

Rajon Hlyboka (Ukrainian Глибоцький район / Hlybozkyj rayon; Russian Глыбокский район / Glybokski raion, Romanian Raionul Adancata or Raionul Hliboca ) is a raion ( administrative district) in the Chernivtsi Oblast, in western Ukraine. The center of the Rajons is the urban-type settlement Hlyboka. The three villages Polyana, Turjatka and Nyschni Syniwzi are in Herza area. In the northeast of Rajon borders the Rajon Herza, south to Romania, to the west by Rajon Storoschynez and in the north for a short distance to the Oblasthauptstadt Chernivtsi.

The Rajon was built in 1940 after the occupation by the Soviet Union and was in this form with an interruption between 1941 to 1944 by the year 1962. Thereafter, the field of Rajons Herza was added to Rajon and was only in 1991 spun off again.

From 1946 to 1995, the villages wore different names:

  • Jordaneschty: Pidlisne ( Підлісне )
  • Opryscheny: Dubiwka ( Дубівка )
  • Sutscheweny: Schyroka Polyana ( Широка Поляна )
  • Terebletsche: Porubne ( Порубне )

The village Jordaneschty was raised on 14 September 2000 into an independent district municipality.

The population consists of about 47% Ukrainians, 45% of Romanians, as well as from other groups ( Moldovans, Russians, Jews, Roma, etc.).
