HMAS Canberra (FFG 02)

The HMAS Canberra ( FFG 02) was a frigate of the Royal Australian Navy. She was a member of the Adelaide class, a modification of the American Oliver Hazard Perry class.

History

The Canberra was laid on March 1, 1978 at Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle, Washington on Kiel. The launch took place at the end of the same year. The official commissioning of the ship was completed on 21 March 1981. Following the frigate led practice shooting through the waters around the Pacific Missile Test Center. The ship is named after the Australian capital Canberra.

In 1988 the Canberra in the exercise RIMPAC 88 ( Rim of the Pacific Exercise 88, German about exercises in the peripheral regions of the Pacific) in the waters around Hawaii part. In 1992, the same exercise, again with the participation of the frigate, in San Diego instead.

End of 2005, the Canberra was finally decommissioned. Shortly before the end of their service life led by the ship nor an exercise with its American sister ship USS Vandegrift (FFG -48 ).
