Construction

The displacement of the HMCS Victoria is about 2,185 t at the surface and about 2,400 t dived. The hull of the submarine is covered with anechoic tiles to the detection by active sonar ( sound navigation ranging, dt as: Navigation and distance measurement by underwater sound ) to reduce. The boat is 70.3 m long, 7.6 m wide and has a depth of 200 m.

The pressure hull is constructed of high-strength steel sections and stiffened by circular internal frame. The tower, located approximately amidships, serves to accommodate the different antennas, periscopes and a closed command post, which offers five people.

Specifications

The sonar of Victoria allows her other submarines and ships " passive" track and pursue, that is, without the active sonar to use and so reveal their position. It has radar (German Radio Detection and Ranging [ about: detection and measurement using radio waves ] ) for general navigation, attack and Suchperiskope with video recording and thermal imaging capability and electronic support measures. The boat has two diesel generators, which are both up to just under 1,500 kW can produce power, and a main motor. The generators are used to load the two main batteries, each consisting of battery cells 240. These batteries are used to provide the boat with energy, which can reach a speed of up to 20 knots under water.
