HMS Achille

In the Royal Navy, there were four ships named HMS Achille, named after the nearly invulnerable hero of Greek mythology, Achilles. The French spelling " celebrates " the acquisition by the French.

  • HMS Achille ( 1745), a French sloop with eight guns, which was applied during the War of the Austrian Succession.
  • HMS Achille (1778 ), a French ship of the line of the third rank with 78 cannons, originally left as Annibal from the stack, renamed Achille and captured during the battle at the Glorious First 13. 1796 she was scrapped.
  • HMS Achille (1780 ), a military transport ship that was purchased in 1780 and sold again in 1784.
  • HMS Achille (1798 ), a third-rate ship of the line with 74 guns, took part in the Battle of Trafalgar, 1865 scrapped.
