HMS Agamemnon

Four ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Agamemnon after Agamemnon, king of Mycenae, a main character of Homer's Iliad

  • The first HMS Agamemnon was a ship of the line of the third rank of the Ardent- class with 64 cannons, which launched from 1781, from 1793 to 1796 was commanded by Horatio Nelson and was lost in 1809 in the estuary of the Río de la Plata by beaching.
  • The second HMS Agamemnon was a ship of the line second class with 91 guns and screw drive, which was launched in 1852 and in 1870 sold for demolition.
  • The third HMS Agamemnon was a battleship of the Ajax class, which was launched in 1879 and was placed out of service in 1903.
  • The fourth HMS Agamemnon was a ship of the line of Lord Nelson class, which was launched in 1906 and in 1927 sold for demolition.
