HMS Apollo

Nine ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Apollo after the god Apollo from Greek mythology.

  • HMS Apollo ( 1747 ), an armed merchant ship with 20 guns, which was captured in 1747 by the French and 1749 before Madras shipwrecked.
  • HMS Apollo (1763 ), a fifth class frigate with 32 cannons as HMS Glory was launched in 1763. It was renamed in 1774 and 1786 scrapped.
  • HMS Apollo (1794 ), a fifth class frigate of 38 guns, which was launched in 1794 and 1799, Holland ran aground.
  • HMS Apollo (1799 ), a fifth class frigate with 36 cannons, which was allowed in 1799 and 1804 from the pile in front of Portugal ran aground.
  • HMS Apollo (1805 ), a fifth class frigate with 38 cannons, which was allowed in 1805 from the stack. It was in 1846 converted into a troopship and 1856 scrapped.
  • HMS Apollo (1891 ), an armored deck cruisers of the Apollo class, which was launched in 1891. It was in 1909 converted to minelayer in 1920 and scrapped.
  • HMS Apollo (1934 ), a light cruiser of the Leander - class, launched in 1934. It was in 1939 transferred to the Royal Australian Navy and renamed HMAS Hobart.
  • HMS Apollo (M01 ) was an Abdiel - class minelayer of which was launched in 1943 and scrapped in 1962.
  • HMS Apollo ( F70 ) was a Leander - class frigate, which was launched in 1970. It was in 1988 sold to the Pakistan Navy and renamed Zulfiquar.
