HMS Belleisle
The name HMS Belleisle, according to the French island of Belle -Île off the coast of Brittany, contributed three ships of the Royal Navy:
- The first HMS Belleisle (1795 ) was originally the French Formidable, a ship of the line third-class 74-gun which was captured in 1795 near Belle- Ile. She was involved in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1814 and scrapped.
- The second HMS Belleisle (1819 ) was also a third-class battleship with 74 cannons, which launched in 1819 and scrapped in 1872.
- The third HMS Belleisle (1876 ) was an armored battleship that was originally built as Peiki Shereef for the Turkish navy, but purchased in 1876 for the Royal Navy in 1903 and sunk as a target ship.
- Furthermore, in 1946 ran a destroyer named HMS Belleisle from the stack, but was never completed.
