HMS Highflyer

Several ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Highflyer ( Highflyer = the Soaring ).

  • The first HMS Highflyer was a schooner with eight guns, originally an American privateer who captured in January 1813 and transferred to the Royal Navy, but was recaptured on 23 September of the same year by the U.S. frigate USS President.
  • The second HMS Highflyer was a fleet tender with two cannons, which was used from 1822 to 1833 by the Royal Navy.
  • The third HMS Highflyer was a frigate with wooden hull and propeller drive, which was launched in 1851 and scrapped in 1871.
  • The fourth HMS Highflyer was a cruiser 2nd class, which was launched in 1898 and in 1921 sold for demolition.
