HMS Niobe
Four ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Niobe by the figure of Niobe in Greek mythology:
- The first HMS Niobe was conquered in 1800 French 38 - gun frigate Diane, which was scrapped in 1816.
- The second HMS Niobe was a frigate of 28 guns, which was launched in 1849 and in 1861 sold to the Prussian Navy.
- The third HMS Niobe was a wooden Sloop the Amazon class. It was built in 1866 and wrecked in 1874 before Miquelon.
- The fourth HMS Niobe was a protected cruiser of the Diadem - class, launched in 1897. It was transferred in 1910 to the newly formed Royal Canadian Navy, used as a depot ship in 1915 and 1922 sold for demolition.
