HMS Prince of Wales

HMS Prince of Wales is the name of today seven warships of the Royal Navy, named after the Prince of Wales ( German: Prince of Wales).

  • The first HMS Prince of Wales was a ship of the line of the third rank with 74 cannons, ran 1765 off the stack and 1783 canceled
  • The second HMS Prince of Wales was a battleship of the second rank with 98 cannons, ran 1794 off the stack and 1822 canceled
  • The third HMS Prince of Wales was a 38 -gun ship transport, acquired in 1795 and 1801 can still be found in the list, further history unknown
  • The fourth HMS Prince of Wales was an Indian 14 -gun sloop of 248 tons, Bombay Dockyard ran 1805 off the stack, their fate is unknown
  • The fifth HMS Prince of Wales was a screw -driven ship of the line of the first rank, in 1869 converted into a training ship and renamed Britannia, sold 1914
  • The sixth HMS Prince of Wales was a steam-powered battleship Formidable - class, been launched in 1902 and sold in 1920
  • The seventh HMS Prince of Wales was a capital ship / Battleship King George V class in 1939 rolled off the stack, put into service in 1941 and still sunk in the same year by Japanese aircraft in Malaysian waters in combat.
  • The eighth HMS Prince of Wales is the second of two planned aircraft carriers of the Queen Elizabeth class and to be put into service in 2020.
