HMS Southampton

Several ships of the British Royal Navy have been named (HMS ) Southampton to the English city of Southampton

  • The first Southampton was a warship fourth rank with 48 cannons. She ran from 1693 batch, was rebuilt in 1700, 1728 converted into a Hulk and scrapped in 1771.
  • The second HMS Southampton was a classified as a warship rank fifth frigate with 32 cannons. She ran in 1757 from the pile and went in 1812 lost by shipwreck in the Bahamas.
  • The third HMS Southampton was a ship of the line fourth rank with 60 cannons. She ran in 1820 from the pile, was built in 1867 borrowed from the " Hull Committee" and sold in 1912.
  • The fourth HMS Southampton was a small protected cruiser or light cruiser of the Town class of 1910. She ran the 1912 batch, took part in the Battle of Jutland in 1916 and in 1927 sold for demolition.
  • The fifth HMS Southampton was a light cruiser of the Town class of 1936. She ran from 1936 batch, took part in numerous operations during the Second World War and sank in 1941 east of Malta to bomb hits.
  • The sixth HMS Southampton is a destroyer of the type 42 you ran 1979 off the stack and is currently in active service.
