HMS Swordfish

Several ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Swordfish after the swordfish

  • The first Swordfish was a destroyer of 330 tons, which was launched in 1895 and was sold in 1910.
  • The second Swordfish ran in 1916 as the submarine S1 from the stack. It was in 1917 converted into a patrol boat and renamed Swordfish.
  • The third Swordfish was a submarine of the S-Class, which was launched in 1931 and 1940 with 40 -man crew vanished without a trace in the English Channel. When the wreck was discovered in 1983 at the Isle of Wight, it turned out that the Swordfish had run over a mine.
