HMS Thunderer

Six ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS Thunderer. These ships were:

  • HMS Thunderer (1760 ), a ship of the line of the third rank, which was scrapped in 1780.
  • HMS Thunderer (1776 ), a rigged as a ketch Radeau, which sank in 1777 on Lake Champlain.
  • HMS Thunderer (1783 ), a third-rate ship of the line, which was scrapped in 1814.
  • HMS Thunderer (1831 ), a ship of the line of the second rank, which used as a target ship in 1863, in 1869 renamed HMS Comet and 1870 in HMS Nettle and sold in 1901.
  • HMS Thunderer (1872 ), an armored cruiser of the Devastation class, which was sold in 1909.
  • HMS Thunderer (1911 ), a battleship of the Orion class, which was sold in 1926 and 1927 canceled.

A battleship of the Lion class ( 1939) should also be called HMS Thunderer. It was ordered in 1939 and the works finally closed in 1944. Furthermore, the Royal Naval Engineering College in 1946 received the name HMS Thunderer.
