Service history

See: History of Triton - class

At the beginning of their service life, the Tigris was used in the Channel and Bay of Biscay, where they 1941 four French fishing vessels, two French freighter, a German tanker and an Italian submarine sunk between July 1940 and July. During the same period HMS Tigris attacked the Italian submarine Veniero and the German submarine U 58 on unsuccessful. Another U- boat was also attacked with no results. Probably it was the Italian Otario.

In the second half of 1941, the Tigris has been used in the North Sea. The British submarine sank here a Norwegian freighter and the Richard With, a Norwegian passenger ship in the Hurtigruten. A German auxiliary U- fighter was badly damaged.

Later HMS Tigris moved into the Mediterranean Sea. The Tigris sank in December 1942 an Italian submarine and in January 1943 an Italian freighter.

HMS Tigris left on 18 February 1943, the base in Malta to patrol off Naples. Then the submarine should run to Algiers, where it was expected on 10 March 1943. The Tigris never reached the Algerian port and is since March 10. 1943 officially missing. There were no survivors. Probably the submarine was sunk six miles southeast of Capri by the German U- hunters UJ -2210 already on 27 February 1943. Another possible explanation of the loss is that which ran the Tigris on a sea mine.
