History

On 6 November 2002, the submarine ran during a navigation exercise off the coast of Scotland due. HMS Trafalgar was slightly damaged in the accident. The repair cost about five million pounds (7.5 million euros ). The cause of the incident was that the plans of the maneuver were changed at short notice, after which the authorities responsible for marine navigation pupils were not set. This situation resulted in misperceptions, for example, the flow was calculated incorrectly, which led ultimately to the placement of the U- boat. The authorities responsible for the maneuver officers, Commander and Commander Fancy McGhie, was convicted by a military court guilty of neglecting their duty of care and to have a high risk for the submarine, since it does not corrected the mistakes of the Marine students.

On 7 November 2008, there was maintenance work on the Trafalgar naval base in Devonport in Plymouth in an accident. With the diversion of radioactive cooling water through a pipeline from on board the U- boat in a tank at the base burst the pipe and 280 liters of radioactive liquid flows into the River Tamar. On 4 December 2009 the Trafalgar was decommissioned.
