HMS Triton

Several ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Triton or HMS Tryton (Triton is an ancient Greek god of the sea ):

  • HMS Tryton ( 1702) was a frigate with 42 cannons. The former French Triton was captured in 1702 at the Battle of Vigo from the British, and 1709 scrapped.
  • HMS Tryton (1741 ) was a sloop. The warship was put into service in 1741.
  • HMS Tryton ( 1745) was a frigate with 24 cannons and was launched in 1745. The warship was set on April 28, 1758 by his own crew on fire, to prevent predation by the French.
  • HMS Triton (1771 ) was a frigate with 28 cannons. It was used in the fleet of Rear Admiral Samuel Hood in 1782 against the rebellious Americans and 1796 canceled.
  • HMS Triton (1796 ) was a frigate with 32 cannons. The ship was used in the coalition wars against revolutionary France in 1820 and canceled.
  • HMS Triton (1846 ) was a sloop with Raddampfantrieb. The warship was sold for scrapping in 1872.
  • HMS Triton (1882 ) was a research vessel with Raddampfantrieb. It was used as a training ship in 1919 and discontinued in 1961.
  • HMS Triton (N15 ) was a submarine and the prototype of the T class. The boat was put into service in 1938 and went in 1940 in the Mediterranean lost.
