Hønefoss

Hønefoss is a small town in the province ( county) Buskerud in southern Norway. It now belongs to the municipality Ringerike and celebrated in 2002 the 150th anniversary of the appointment to the city. The city has 13,775 inhabitants and covers an area of 9.5 km ² ( 1450 Ew. / Km ²).

It is the natural commercial center for the communities of Ringerike, Hole and Jevnaker. Hønefoss is located north of the lake Tyrifjorden. The waterfall of the river Begna gave the city its name.

Traffic

Hønefoss is an important transportation hub. The Bergensbanen Oslo - Bergen leads through the station Hønefoss, here the branch Roa - Hønefosslinjen ( Jevnakerbanen ) by Roa and the Randsfjordbanen to the edge of the fjord from.

The main road E16 from Oslo to Bergen via Hønefoss and also meets here on the Riksvei 7 after Hallingdal and Riksvei 35 after Hokksund and Lunner.
