Hnivan

Hniwan (Ukrainian and Russian Гнівань; Гнивань / Gniwan, Polish Hniwań ) is a city in the Vinnytsia Oblast of Ukraine. It is located about 19 kilometers southwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Vinnytsia at the Southern Bug, administrative also includes the village Hryschynzi ( Грижинці ) for city council community.

The town was first mentioned in writing in 1629 and was first in the province Braclaw to Poland, in 1795 it came to the Russian Empire was administratively incorporated into the province of Podolia. 1938, the village the status of an urban-type settlement, since 1981 the city has Hniwan status.

With the opening leading through the village railway from Kiev to Odessa and the economic development of the town began. It was built large granite quarries, that later came a sugar factory and a concrete plant.

Since 1991, the city is a part of today's Ukraine.
