The high mountain is one with its 943 meters of the smaller mountains in the Bavarian Forest. It is located in the extreme northwest of the Bavarian Forest National Park and directly above the town of Bavarian Eisenstein.

Its summit is indeed uninteresting and not available on the marked trail, but there are on its northern side the promising high rock ( 875 m) with good views of Bavarian Eisenstein, the Großer Arber and Železná Ruda in the Bohemian Forest.

For High Rock can be reached in a short time by Bavarian Eisenstein from (accessible by Forest Railway ). More trails, including the long-distance trail E6 lead example of Zwieslerwaldhaus and from the inn Schwellhäusl on the High Rock.

On the western slope of the mountain high was erected in 1939, 2.8 ha comprehensive nature reserve Johannisruh, which came up in 1997 with the extension of the Bavarian Forest National Park in this. This area is characterized by large rock outcrops.
