The University of Music Würzburg was founded in 1797 by Franz Joseph Fröhlich as Collegium Musicum Academicum. From 1921 to August 1973 she was called Bavarian State Conservatory of Music, until it was renamed on 1 September 1973 on the University of Music Würzburg. The University is spread over three buildings in Würzburg: Hofstallstraße 6-8, Ebracher lane 1 and Hofstraße 13

President since October 1, 2007 Prof. Helmut Erb. The number of full students is about 650 (as of winter semester 2006/ 07).

To the degree "Bachelor of Music" perform the following artistic ( sometimes also artistic- educational ) courses:

The artistic and instrumental teaching subjects with a degree in music ( in ) or graduate music teacher ( in ) run out and are no longer available for new students.

It is offered to continue the study of music in the artistic teaching at secondary schools as well as in the artistic teaching at primary, lower secondary and secondary schools.

There are several postgraduate courses and the possibility of promotion.

Musically gifted children and adolescents are specifically promoted by the College (musical ECI ).
