Hodgesiella rebeli

Hodgesiella rebeli is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the splendor butterfly ( Cosmopterigidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan 9-11 mm. Head and forehead ( frons ) white gleam of the vertices ( vertex ) is gray. The head is back and dark brown on the sides. The sensors shine dark brown and curled white. The last fifth is white. Thorax and tegulae shining dark brown. The forewing shining dark brown and also marked with three shiny white, yellow edged binding. The basal and the mean binding are perpendicular to the Costa loader or run slightly obliquely inward. The apical binding is slightly curved on the Costa loader outward. The two outer bandages taper in the direction of the vane inner edge. The fringe scales are grayish brown. The hind wings shine light gray. The first three segments of the abdomen are almost glossy white, the other segments shining gray.

In the males the right brachium is parallel-walled and has a widened and flat apex. The left brachium is straight and tapers distally. The Valven are lobed. The right Valvella is triangular and pointed. The aedeagus is including the tubular part straight and has a pointed apex.

In females, the anterior posterior Apophyses are three times as long as the Apophyses. The sterigma is parallel-walled, tapering forward abruptly. It is strongly sclerotized. The ductus bursae is as long as the corpus bursae. The corpus bursae is egg-shaped and has a very broad elongated appendage. The two signals are in the form of a small mandrel and are surrounded by an irregularly shaped sclerotized spot.

The caterpillars are 11 to 12 millimeters long and in the middle of 1 to 3 millimeters thick. They are waxy yellow or pink and hairless. The head and neck shield divided shine black. Under the neck plate is located on both sides of a black dot. The feet are just as stained as crawler body, only the claw feet are light brown horn at the top. On the ventral side are in the middle of the first ten members each, a light brown elongated spot.

Hodgesiella rebeli is widespread in the Balkans (Albania, Croatia, Macedonia, Greece), in Italy, Hungary and Romania.

Biology

The caterpillars nate in the leaves of the Cantabrian bindweed (Convolvulus cantabricus ) and the Eibischblättrigen bindweed (Convolvulus althaeoides ). The mine begins as a burrow and is fast becoming a space mine that is contracted through the inner web along. The Raupenkot is stored in the vein-like area of the mine. The moths fly from May to July.
