Hoeroa

The Hoeroa, even Tata Paraoa, is a throwing weapon and leg from New Zealand.

Description

The Hoeroa is made from the lower jaw bone of the sperm whale. It is S-shaped, bent and thin. The thickness of the lobe varies over the entire length. One end is rounded worked, the other fishtail shaped. As the handle end, the fishtail end serves. The edges are flattened and fed ground sharp. The entire surface is made smooth. The handle end is often decorated with traditional ornaments. The Hoeroa is used by the Maori as a throwing club and as a melee weapon.
